About me
Security researcher in London, working on Rust malware reverse engineering.
I'm Yen. I'm a PhD researcher in cyber security at the University of the West of England, Bristol, and I live in London.
My research is reverse engineering Rust malware. Compiled Rust binaries are laid out differently from C binaries, and many analysis tools were built with C in mind. I study what information a Rust binary keeps after stripping and how tools handle it. The work is at an early, exploratory stage. Alongside the PhD I practise vulnerability research and malware analysis in a home lab, and I write up what I learn.
I'm open to roles in malware analysis, reverse engineering and AI security.
Now building
Rust Insights Agentic System: an agentic AI system that detects Rust malware by recovering what compiled Rust code does, which today's reverse engineering tools miss.
Tools I use
Ghidra, Binary Ninja, IDA Pro, radare2, GDB, AddressSanitizer, Miri, objdump and readelf. I write Rust, Python and C, and read x86-64 assembly.
Elsewhere
I write on Medium and on Substack as Monles Decodes, keep code on GitHub, and I'm on LinkedIn. The quickest way to reach me is email.
